IRCTC waitlisted e-tickets 2019: Waiting train ticket cancellation, refund rules

New Delhi: Due to the high ridership on the Indian Railways network, there is a fair possibility that people willing to reserve train tickets via IRCTC e-ticketing website may get waitlisted tickets. The confirmation of waitlisted tickets or reservation against cancellation (RAC) tickets is subject to cancellation or modification by the customers who have already booked the tickets. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), however, provides the facility of booking waitlisted e-tickets for all the trains.

According to IRCTC, the passengers whose status is fully confirmed or fully RAC after the preparation of the chart and the passengers whose name is appearing on the chart can undertake the journey. The name of the passengers whose names are partly confirmed/partly waitlist or partly RAC/partly waitlist, their names shall appear in charts including the waitlist passengers, IRCTC said.

The cancellation of e-tickets by the customer/agent through IRCTC e-ticket booking website is permitted only before the chart preparation for the train. The passengers are required to send an email as soon as possible to e-ticket@irctc.co.in along with the full details of the ticket booking stating the claim for any claims the on e-tickets cancelled after the preparation of the reservation charts.

The request will be processed by the IRCTC with the Railway administration offline and the refunds as sanctioned by the Railway administration would be credited back to the user’s account, IRCTC said. The names of the passengers who are left out fully (all the passengers in the transaction) on the waiting list after chart preparation, their names will be dropped and will not appear in charts and certainly, they will not be allowed to board the train.

According to the prevailing rules of the Indian Railways, such passengers detected travelling in the train will be treated as passengers travelling without the ticket. The cancellation of the train ticket, in this case, shall be done by the IRCTC after chart preparation and the refund shall be arranged from Railways by IRCTC which will be credited to customer/agent account electronically.
